They love bumpers or humps in eastern africa. As the villages have grown along the main transit routes it makes alot of sense to slow down the cars at the village entrance. The humps are often enormous, nothing compared with the small ones we know in Europe and of which the swiss 30km/h communities are so fon of. These here are the real bumpers. Easily 30cm to 40cm high, if you don't slow down to walking speed the car will take off.
The bump you see in the picture is of another kind. They are redoing the street. So for kilometers there is a hump every 100m... So ther is an interminable physical work for the driver: 2nd gear, 3rd gear, 2nd gear, 3 gear... and you don't even manage an average speed of 30km/h. Drives you nuts....but very effective in slowing down traffic.
